Public Rights Of Way (PROW)

The Wivenhoe Society has been working with Wivenhoe Town Council on applications for various footpaths to be added to the County’s definitive map of Public Rights of Way.

In 2019 the Society submitted evidence (witness statements, old maps) of two routes and asked for them to be shown on the definitive map as public footpaths. The routes were Ballast Quay Road and the track linking Arlesford Road to Ballast Quay Road. The County allowed the applications in 2021 but the landowners have a period in which to object before an Order to include them will be made. These are the two routes:

Two further applications have been made to the County: to add the footpath from Parkwood Avenue eastwards to The Avenue and the footpath linking Elmgrove with De Vere Lane and the King George V playing field. These are still pending.

The Wivenhoe Society is grateful to all those residents who have made statements to witness their use of the routes.
