In May, Wivenhoe’s generous enthusiasts opened their gardens to the public for the annual event. As well as some old favourites, there were some great new gardens to visit, with an inspirational mix of designs, scrubs, flowers and water features on display, as well as the opportunity to meet Wivenhoe’s green-fingered experts.
WivSoc committee members including stalwarts Pat, Jeannie and Joan, welcomed visitors at the Open Gardens stall, pointing them in the right direction and offering a range of delicious home-made treats.
The event raised an excellent amount of money which was split between the organisers WivSoc and St Mary’s Church. Wivenhoe Society held a lunch to thank those who had taken part and to hand over cheques to support local charities and causes. These included Wivenhoe in Bloom, Reach Out At Christmas, Wivenhoe Food Bank – Food, Wivenhoe Food Bank - Hygiene products, Essex Bloodrunners, Wivenhoe Woodcrafters, 1st Wivenhoe Cubs, Wivenhoe Baby and Toddler Group and the Wivenhoe Film Festival.
